Hypathia beim Festival in Cannes

Alejandro Amenabar hat seinen neuen Film in Cannes vorgestellt, ein historisches Drama mit einer Mathematikerin in der Hauptrolle.
In "Agora" geht es um die alexandrinische Mathematikerin Hypathia und ihre Ermordung im Jahr 415.
Aus der Besprechung von Eric Kohn: "The story mainly revolves around the research of astronomer Hypathia (Rachel Weisz), whose constant struggle to understand the Earth's place in the universe continually clashes with the religious upheaval taking place throughout the city of Alexandria. As she engages in ongoing discussions about the motion of the solar system -- on the right path to discover that the Earth revolves around the sun -- her fellow Pagans fight the onslaught of Christianity. With these two conflicts in place, "Agora" oscillates between scientific and theological conversations for the bulk of its two and a half hours, with a few violent street battles thrown in for good measure."
Den Trailer kann man sich unten schon mal anschauen, der Film kommt im Herbst heraus.
Amenabar war in den 90er Jahren mit Tesis bekannt geworden - ein Film, der ebenfalls im Universitäts-Milieu spielt ...

Den Gesetzen des Marktes folgend war es offenbar unvermeidlich, Hypatia (NICHT: Hypathia) als sexy junge Frau darzustellen, zumal deren brutale Verstümmelung und Ermordung ja einen viel saftigeren Kick gibt (dabei war frau damals jenseits der 50 faktisch eine Greisin).
Aber immerhin, es traut sich jemand mal, die Traditionslinien christlicher Wissenschaftsfeindlichkeit an einem besonders prägnanten Beispiel herauszustellen.
